Mr Julian Choi graduated from the University of Melbourne medical school in 1998 and has been in private practice since 2010 in Melbourne. He completed his surgical training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2006 and then undertook a further 3 years of fellowship specialist training in Upper Gastrointestinal (GI), Hepato, Pancreatic, Biliary (HPB) surgery in Melbourne, Sydney & Seoul, South Korea.

Specialist Surgery
Mr Choi specialises in the treatment of benign and malignant liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and gastric conditions, and is a consultant HPB surgeon at Epworth Richmond and Western Health. He has extensive operating experience in complex Hepato, Pancreatico, Biliary (HPB) surgery and has established a robotic HPB and General Surgery practice at Epworth Richmond. Acute and Emergency General Surgery is another area of his expertise. He has been a recipient of The Epworth Foundation Innovation Grant which has helped him to travel and visit international medical centres to introduce and establish a robotic HPB program at Epworth Richmond.
He is very happy to be contacted for urgent referrals regarding patients with potential pancreatic malignancy, jaundiced patients, or patient's with a liver lesion(s). He works closely with The Jreissati Pancreatic Centre at Epworth to provide excellence in clinical and surgical care of patients with pancreatic disease.

Research and Education
Mr Choi is involved in clinical research in the areas of liver and pancreatic cancer and surgery. He is national a principal investigator leading an international multi-centre randomised trial in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. He has been a recipient of the Jo Curzon-Siggers Pancreatic Cancer Research Grant. He is also involved in basic science research in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer.
He regularly engages in lecturing, teaching and mentoring medical students, residents and registrars and has now introduced innovative robotic surgery. He has recently been a supervisor of general surgical training at Western Health and has been an examiner for The University of Melbourne Medical School.
Julian regularly attends national and international Hepato, Pancreatico, Biliary (HPB) conferences and has been an invited guest speaker at International Conferences. He continues to engage with the wider international surgical community and has visited renowned international centres such as The University of Heidelberg Germany in 2018, ASAN Medical Centre South Korea in 2023 and Carolinas Medical Centre, North Carolina USA in 2023. These visits have been of significant educational value and have allowed advanced surgical techniques to be applied here in Melbourne.
